Carnegie Mellon University

Structure

The course teaches the EA6 holistic architecture approach that is described in the primary textbook.  No software tools are used, this is a concept instruction curriculum.  This allows students to apply the EA6 concepts in using a wide variety of analysis and modeling tools that are commercially available.  We discuss tool selection as part of the Advanced EA course.  The Enterprise Architecture and Organizational Design (EA) course series awards a certificate to each student for successful completion of each of the following individual courses:

  • EA Fundamentals - required for Certified Enterprise Architect certificate
  • Advanced EA (pre-requisite EA Fundamentals or Challenge Exam) required for Certified Enterprise Architect certificate

A Challenge Exam is an option for students who have experience in EA, giving them an opportunity to "test out" of the EA Fundamentals course.

Certified Enterprise Architect

A Certified Enterprise Architect certificate is awarded for completion of the 3 part series:  EA Fundamentals, EA Archictecture for Mergers and Acquisitons and Advanced EA courses.  Certification is in addition to the certificates awarded in the individual courses.

Target Audience

The Enterprise Architecture Fundamentals course is designed for executives, managers, and staff in public and private sector organizations who want to gain an understanding of how to establish an Enterprise Architecture (EA) program, update existing architectures, do specific projects, grow EA teams, and use the architecture to support planning and decision-making throughout the organization. The follow-up course, Advanced EA, further extends the student's understanding of how to apply EA theory and practice through the implementation of ongoing EA programs in public and private sector organizations.
